Our asset protection, estate planning, business planning, debtor-creditor, workout, and tax practices, as well as our prior litigation practice, are highly interconnected and give us a holistic view of client cases. Our services are typically geared to meet the needs of high net worth individuals and persons engaged in complex transactions.
Some of our work involves international elements, particularly in connection with asset protection planning. Other parts of our practice involve 100% domestic "made in the USA" components. Our "made in America" approach typically means using Ohio's ever-expanding array of cutting edge planning tools, although we're also familiar with tools in a number of other U.S. jurisdictions.
Our oil and gas practice arises from our Texas ties and our experience in various aspects of life in the oil patch, including oil and gas litigation and oil and gas transactions. The litigation aspect includes lease title disputes, brine spill litigation, securities and RICO suits (including a RICO suit involving allegations of inappropriate top-leasing), pipeline easement questions, subsurface storage issues, dissolution of partnership litigation, and compulsory pooling and unitization matters. The transactional aspect includes oil and gas leasing, pooling and unitization, and sale-of-business issues.
Except for probate matters, the attorneys of Sullivan & Sullivan, Ltd. rarely appear in court as counsel of record.
However, the firm's attorneys have extensive litigation experience from other phases of their careers, including state, federal, bankruptcy, trial, and appellate work. Most of this litigation experience was in civil matters, but sometimes also involved roles as "second chair" or consulting counsel in cases involving actual or potential white collar criminal prosecutions.
The firm's attorneys still sometimes appear as counsel of record in certain select proceedings that are of particular interest to them.
Sullivan & Sullivan, Ltd. can easily co-counsel with litigators in cases dealing with issues related to our practice areas, such as asset protection planning, estate planning, debtor-creditor matters, fraudulent transfer issues, civil RICO claims, oil and gas matters, and other types of cases.
Our ongoing "back office" litigation activity includes case evaluations, writing or editing of motions and briefs, and other services.
Mr. Sullivan has also acted as an expert witness in various cases involving asset protection and estate planning issues.
Sullivan & Sullivan, Ltd. was formed in 1996. Before then, its members practiced law with other firms in the Cleveland area. Together, the firm's two members have roughly 70 years of experience between them.
